Internet Summit

“American Community Internet Leadership Summit”
You are invited to join a unique meeting of leading community
telecommunications experts from North America. Reflecting new challenges
and rapid changes, this year’s seventh national conference offers two
important new events for technology leaders.
Thursday, April 28th:
A one-day Interactive Workshop Seminar on: “Community Internet Service:
Broadband over Power Line and Wireless Access”
Seminar/Workshop for community and industry leaders interested in
accurate, objective information on wireless and BPL possibilities for
local Internet. Discusses current costs and technical capability, legal
and regulatory concerns, business models, and the rest.
Experts will describe basics simply (with information materials) then
discuss individual questions and specifics with all participants in
interactive group workshop format, with clear, practical information
useful for each attendee, whether technical or not.
Friday/Saturday, April 29-30:
“Open Space Austin” - Community Internet Leadership Summit
Open Space Austin will bring together organizations, experts, and
individuals interested in learning, sharing and working together for
stronger, more effective community telecommunications. This intensive two
day strategy summit is an active meeting designed for everyone to share
ideas and resources, explore common goals, encourage individual actions,
strengthen cooperation, build lasting alliances and a join forces to offer
a stronger voice for communities.
The Open Space Austin Summit is created to welcome not only veteran
professionals but anyone committed to the issues of local
telecommunications, including:
Community broadband access Community Internet service providers
Community wireless Community networking
Community technology programs Community & independent media,
Community informatics & research Community social and economic development
Community educational opportunities Community workforce and job skills
Community youth technology resources …and other issues of community
telecom
The open space format will include a variety of large and small group
discussions led by experts around self-selected topics, with a standard
reporting system to generate a conference report available for all
participants after the conclusion of the meeting.
